Fall has arrived on Pigeon Cay, Cat Island

Author : admin Date : October 7, 2023

Subscriber,

I haven’t used our pigeoncay.org website and its newsletter feature since we added the WhatsApp group, so thought a brief newsletter email was in order.

Temperatures are finally cooling down after a hot summer.  It’s dipping into the mid 70’s overnight and generally only hitting the low 90’s during the day, with humidity averaging 80%.  Thankfully, the ocean water temps have really cooled down. There have been frequent rain showers so cisterns are staying full and the intermittent cloud cover has helped as well.

This is the time of year when storms and hurricanes pop-up in the Caribbean and gulf waters, rather than rolling off the west coast of Africa, so there’s less warning. Keep watch on the National Hurricane Center for the latest updates.

BPL is still experiencing more power outages than we’d prefer, but they’re less frequent and shorter in duration. BPL also got their bucket truck back from Nassau so bigger repairs are taking less time.

The Queen’s Highway potholes are getting repaired more regularly, accept between Dumfries and Arthur’s Towne , where the government is supposed to start repaving the road, but it’s worse than ever if you’re heading north from Pigeon Cay. And the frequent rain showers are constantly opening new holes, so drive cautiously, we’ve had to replace 3 tires due to road hazards.

The Road and Traffic division will be on Cat Island the week of Oct 22 to collect vehicle registration fees, but there’s been no word on what homeowners with vehicles are supposed to do if they arrive afterwards.  I will inquire directly when we get our car registered then and will send an update, if they give me any info then.

We look forward to your return to Pigeon Cay.

Warm Regards, The Honeycutts
