Pigeon Cay Road Repairs Complete

Author : admin Date : January 7, 2017

Dear Subscriber,

Happy Hew Year! Victoria and I arrived a month ago on December 6th to find the repairs to the road underway. The majority of the potholes had been filled in and leveled and the workers were waiting on rain to help further compact the fill as well as identify areas needing further attention. The rains came and more holes and even low and rough areas were filled in and improved between Christmas and New Year’s. Yesterday, January 6th Ned told me the repairs were done and I drove over the road to see for myself. The repairs went beyond just the potholes as the road is much more passable than just a few days ago. If you’re fortunate enough to still be here now I ask you to drive the road and give me your feedback so I can collect and forward it to all the Property Owners. I will take some photos and post them on our website, PigeonCay.org.

Ned will be submitting his accounting to me shortly and I will send a full accounting of the funds collected and their disbursements within a week. 100% of the Property Owners for whom we have contact information participated in the funding and I am still pursuing getting in touch with the remaining 7 owners to pay their portion.

A couple of comments on the road are needed. I explained up front that this was a fill and level the potholes repair job. It was not a grading project. Nor was it an elevate and add drainage project. Yes, our road needs that level of work, but those efforts would have been much more costly and this project has been successful in making our road safely drive-able as well as coalescing the property owners and laying the foundation for our community to work together going forward. Our road is not an autobahn and we need to drive slowly and safely to minimize damage to the road, especially during the next month as the fill settles and after any rain. And undoubtedly low places in the road will still flood after heavy rains and erosion will continue. I have a pot hole in the road abutting our lot and will fill that in myself and will be trimming back the brush along that portion of the road as well. Each of us can do a little when we see a problem with the road, even if it’s not along our lot.

Thank you for your continued patience and expect to see a full accounting soon.

Best Regards,
James D. Honeycutt, Pigeon Cay POA
